Your First Website - How To
If you're interested in building an online business, there are several ways to go about doing so. Some require a website and some do not. The purpose of this article is to discuss building a website. If you've never built a website before, you're going to need to learn some skills. First, you're going to need a place to practice your web page building skills. I would recommend signing up for a free website to play around with while you master your skills. Now, this free website will NOT be where you want to build your business, but it will do for the purpose of learning and practicing your web page building skills. Second, I would recommend finding a good resource for learning the programming code called HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) It's the language your browser uses to convert data into a web page. One of the first places I went to (years ago) is HTML Goodies It's a good place to start, but there are many other places out there. Do a Google search for HTML basics and you should have plenty of resources to check out. At your free website, you will have access to a WYSIWYG HTML Editor. WYSIWYG stands for "What You See Is What You Get" and was created to be an online Editor, as opposed to a program where you would write your pages on your PC and then upload them to your website's server using a File Transfer Protocol (ftp) program. Ftp is a bit more complicated, so start with the WYSIWYG Editor first. As you learn how to code your pages with HTML, you'll be able to see your efforts immediately. All web pages must start with the command < html > . All web pages must END with the command < /html > . This tells the browser what kind of page to expect and when it comes to an end. Everything you type in between the opening and closing < html > "tags" will have coding that will tell the browser how to construct the web page. That's why you need to learn HTML. If you want to see an example of HTML, go to any web page out there and right-click on the page (somewhere that is not an imageāthe background area is usually a good place) and choose "View Page Source". This will bring up a page filled with the HTML coding that was used to construct that page. DON'T LET IT OVERWHELM YOU! There will be a lot of coding there, but trust, once you get HTML under your belt, this won't be so scary! It's going to take time. Be persistent. Making money online is not an overnight thing. And if you are starting from scratch, you're going to need to learn basic skills first. Give yourself time and be patient.
